Eman, a queer Muslim from Brooklyn, struggles with her faith, her sexuality, and the difficult decision of coming out to the most important person in her life—her devoutly religious mother. She is determined to maintain her unique, close bond with her. To delay her coming out, she decides to marry her current boyfriend Q in order to maintain the appearance of a heterosexual relationship.
The film shows the contrasting expectations of different identities. At the climax, past, present, and future intertwine during a drive from St. Louis Airport to Columbia.
