NO STRAIGHT LINES tells the story of queer comics around five important comic artists who put the unthinkable on paper: Queer realities of life.

Beginning in the 1970s as an underground movement, the documentary traces the development up to the present and provides insights not only into the personal stories of the protagonists, but also into the socio-political context of the past and present.

An exciting insight into the queer comic scene (in the USA) – even for those who haven’t had much to do with comics before!

“Don’t tell me how you realised you were trans* – I want to hear about the house you grew up in and the school you went to…” says Leo. Together, Leo, Nico, Andrea and Raff record thoughts about their transition on tape. They share anger and euphoria, reminisce and dream about the future. In between, they build the perfect pink bicycle, muddle through medical systems, dance swing and write poetry on typewriters at night. For two years, NEL MIO NOME accompanies them through their everyday lives in Bologna, Italy.

Want to be in someone else’s body for a change? I’m sure many have imagined that … including Johnny. Johnny is nine years old and loves spending time with Melanie. Melanie is totally fascinating and has been babysitting Johnny since birth. But the two are about to say goodbye to each other. A childish fantasy becomes reality when Johnny finds himself in Melanie’s body. Suddenly Johnny finds himself confronted with an adult everyday life, with realities around his own body, romantic and sexual relationships and professional responsibilities. HOMEBODY is a film about a special relationship, about identity and finding one’s place in society – told with great wit and a childlike curiosity.

USA | 2021 | Feature film | Director: Joseph Sackett | 75 min. | English with German subtitles
